Yoonjin Shin, a master’s student in the Department of Economics at our university, received the Best Graduate Student Paper Award at the 2025 Spring Conference and General Assembly of the Korean Association of Public Finance, held on March 28, 2025, at the FKI Tower Conference Center.

The Graduate Student Paper Award of the Korean Association of Public Finance is presented to outstanding papers selected through a review of those presented in the graduate student sessions at the association’s Fall Conference in the previous year. Shin presented a paper titled “The Economic Effects of the North Korean Crisis Using Text Analysis,” and was selected as the recipient of the Best Paper Award, which is given to the most outstanding research contribution.
The paper constructs a North Korean Crisis Index by analyzing text data from domestic and international newspaper databases and quantitatively examines the economic impacts of North Korean crises on the economies of South Korea and neighboring countries.
Notably, the Department of Economics at our university has produced recipients of the Best Graduate Student Paper Award for two consecutive years, an exceptional achievement. This achievement reflects the outcomes and impact of the BK21 Education and Research Team, which was launched last year. Since March 2024, the Department of Economics at Chung-Ang University has participated in the fourth phase of the BK21 program, providing a wide range of scholarships and research grants to graduate students, with a strong emphasis on enhancing their research capabilities.
