Students from the Department of Economics at Chung-Ang University achieved outstanding results at the 2025 21st Korean Association for Resource and Energy Economics (KAREE) Undergraduate and Graduate Student Paper Competition, one of Korea’s leading academic conferences in the fields of natural resources, energy, and environmental economics.
The Korean Association for Resource and Energy Economics hosts the annual paper competition to promote academic research among undergraduate and graduate students in areas such as energy markets, energy policy, climate change, renewable energy, water resources, and forest resources.
At this year’s competition, Jihoon Lim, a master’s student in the Department of Economics (advised by Professor Sung-Yong Park), received the Excellence Award, while Seungheon Yeo, an economics double major and member of CES (Chung-ang Economist Society), won the Encouragement Award.

Lim earned the Excellence Award for his paper entitled “The Role of Energy Prices in Linking Inflation and Stock Markets in East Asia: Evidence from Dynamic Bayesian Networks.” Under the guidance of Professor Park, Lim presented key issues in energy and resource economics through rigorous econometric analysis and insightful economic interpretation, earning high praise from the judges.

Yeo received the Encouragement Award for his paper titled “A Dual Risk Assessment of the Occurrence and Magnitude of Heavy Rainfall Damage in Local Governments under Climate Change: A Hurdle Model Approach.” Conducted within CES, an academic community of the Department of Economics, the research demonstrated strong empirical analysis and economic reasoning, showcasing the research capabilities of the CES community to a broader academic audience.

CES (Chung-ang Economist Society) is an academic community formed by students of the Department of Economics at Chung-Ang University to foster both advanced academic inquiry and practical research skills, with a focus on strengthening empirical analysis capabilities and building a solid research foundation.
The Department of Economics at Chung-Ang University stated, “The research achievements of these two students represent a meaningful demonstration of our department’s academic strength, and we will continue to actively support our students’ research activities.”
