At the 2025 Summer Conference of the Korean Data Analysis Society, jointly hosted by the Korean Data Analysis Society and the Department of Data Science at Konkuk University from July 3 to 4, 2025, Hyunseong Hwang, a master’s student in the Department of Economics, received the Encouragement Award for his paper entitled “Estimating the Number of Working Days Using Machine Learning Methods.”

Co-authored with Professor Yong-ok Choi of the Department of Economics, the paper proposes a methodology that applies machine learning techniques to export statistics to more precisely estimate the effect of working days embedded in export values. Hwang conducted this research with support as a BK21 Research Scholarship recipient from the BK21 Education and Research Team of the Department of Economics at Chung-Ang University.

Meanwhile, the Department of Economics at Chung-Ang University participated in the conference by organizing a dedicated session on economic data analysis. Doctoral students Jaebin Cho, Saerom Ahn, and Youngju Lim presented their research on employment of persons with disabilities, housing prices, and private education and low fertility, respectively, engaging in active discussions with conference participants.

The Department of Economics continues to actively support its graduate students in presenting outstanding research outcomes at domestic and international academic conferences through the BK21 Education and Research Team program.
