Alumnus Jun-hyuk Jeong (Class of 2018) from the Department of Economics has been selected as a recipient of the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship for Research Students.

The MEXT Scholarship is a Japanese government-funded program that supports tuition and living expenses for international students studying at Japanese universities through recommendations from Japanese embassies. Recipients are selected annually through examinations administered by the Japanese embassy. As a 2025 scholarship recipient, alumnus Jeong will begin his studies in April as a research student in the Graduate School of Economics at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, Japan. He will receive full financial support for tuition and living expenses throughout his master’s and doctoral programs.
Alumnus Jeong stated, “I began studying Japanese during my military service, which inspired my dream of studying in Japan. After returning to university, I completed coursework in Econometrics and the Finance–AI Convergence Program, where I developed a strong interest in machine learning and time series analysis. I plan to pursue advanced research in this field during my studies in Japan.”
